STiR featured in Intrepid EdNews Podcast

STiR was recently featured on the Intrepid EdNews podcast hosted by Tim Logan in conversation with Girish Menon, CEO and John Mcintosh, Director of Design and Program Readiness at STiR. The podcast was based on our intrinsic motivation approach and how it can help us to fuel global education.

The conversation sheds light on why we need intrinsic motivation to reduce educational challenges in schools, how STiR uses it in our approach and what kind of impact we have seen over the years while working in India and Uganda.

Girish talks about the positive change noticed in Uganda: “A teacher in Uganda talked about how the relationship between the teachers and officials had changed. Earlier when the officials would come to the school, the teachers would get worried because it’s a supervisory visit, an inspection which was about criticising the work of the teachers. But now they look forward to the education officials coming, because now they come as a coach and a mentor. They are here to support the teachers, they observe the teachers and give them critical feedback. This has happened because now the official is intrinsically motivated to deliver what he/she is meant to do, therefore relooking at the role. That is precisely what we mean by the change in their relationship.”

This was a wonderful session and we are grateful for Intrepid EdNews and Tim for the opportunity to talk about our work.
