We are delighted to share that our CEO Girish Menon and Chair Jo Owen were invited to an ecosystem event at the Skoll World Forum on 12 April titled, “A Pivotal moment: Founder – CEO Transitions in the Purpose-Led Sector”. They were also joined by our Co-Founder and former CEO Sharath Jeevan.
The panel discussion also featured friends from Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS) and the Vitol Foundation. Girish, Jo and Sharath shared their experiences of the transition of STiR from being led by founders to a new CEO. It was an afternoon of discussion, interactive debates and learning.
The panel discussed a number of issues related to transition when the Founder CEO exits and a new CEO is appointed. While PEAS had an internal candidate as its successor CEO, STiR appointed an external candidate. The panel shared some valuable insights on navigating this transition, which is a very unique experience for an organisation when the Founder decides to move on. It was also an opportunity to reflect on what could have been done better and share some advice for organisations that are considering similar transitions. What made it even more interesting was that in addition to the Founders and CEOs sharing their experiences, the insights were also heard from the perspective of a board Chair and a donor partner, making it a very comprehensive discussion.
“The conversations were rich and very stimulating. While organisations constantly go through leadership transitions, it is not often that we get to reflect on the process and share key insights. Thank you to Oxford HR for conceiving this opportunity and delivering an excellent event. We look forward to attending more such sessions to enhance our learning.” – Girish Menon
