Our goal is to keep working together—teachers, principals, and supervisors—to help students develop strong character and become lifelong learners.
On December 31, 2024, Pak Heppy Septevin Gumilang, S.Pd, the Head of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Lumajang District Education Agency, shared that the district’s education agency had officially approved a decree to set up a steering committee for the STiR-YBB programme and programmes under the District Education Agency in Lumajang. This is a big step forward, ensuring that the programme will continue to support teachers and students in Lumajang for many years.
This decision shows the district’s strong commitment to the programme. Since 2022, STiR-YBB has worked closely with the Lumajang District Education Agency to improve teacher development. In 2024, the programme reached a new stage—local educators started taking the lead in creating training content. A special team of teachers, school principals, and school supervisors from Lumajang took charge of designing learning materials that directly meet the needs of their schools.
A big part of this progress is the work of the communications and technology team, which launched a new repository website. This website serves as a central learning hub where teachers and schools can find resources easily. All the resources have been created by the STiR-YBB team and the local co-design team in Lumajang.
Another key development is the training team’s role in coaching school leaders. These trainers ensure that learning sessions are well-organised and useful for teachers, principals, and supervisors. The district’s school supervisors also play an important role by regularly checking on the programme’s progress and giving feedback. This helps improve the programme across Lumajang.
Looking ahead, Pak Heppy hopes that the steering committee will lead the way in teacher development across the district. He shared, “We have decided to call this team ‘Innovation in Education and Character.’ I hope that the programme we built with STiR-YBB over the past two years will continue. Our goal is to keep working together—teachers, principals, and supervisors—to help students develop strong character and become lifelong learners.”
What started as a partnership with STiR-YBB has now grown into a locally-led movement for education and innovation in Lumajang.
