We have been delighted to host colleagues from VVOB Rwanda to visit our programme in Karnataka. VVOB is an organisation with more than 35 years of experience in sustainably improving the quality of education systems, and our Uganda team works closely with their team in Rwanda to share our experiences and learning.
This year, we agreed to host a joint visit for the VVOB Rwanda team and two of STiR’s Senior Programme Managers in Uganda to spend four days with our team in Karnataka. We were delighted to be joined by Mr. Ismael Mulindwa, Director of Basic and Secondary Education in the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports, as well as by Gerard Murasira (Head of Teacher Training Unit, Rwanda Education Board) and Ernestine Umutesi (Lecturer, University of Rwanda College of Education), to share a government perspective.
The visit took place between 17-20 September, and included meetings with the STiR team and senior government officials, and a visit to meet teachers and officials in Mysuru district. We were especially grateful to Mr. Gopalakrishna, Director of the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT), for chairing a meeting with our visitors and sharing details about our programme. Our teams in both Karnataka and Uganda found this visit very useful for sharing their learning, and identified a number of common challenges across the geographies.
We look forward to further collaboration with our colleagues at VVOB in the near future.
