The world of education has been greatly affected by the unprecedented challenges brought by Covid-19, and the school closures have caused disruption to education for billions of children. But for the work of STiR Education in Delhi, the pandemic has given us an opportunity to innovate and try new approaches and practices including the remote delivery of our programme.
Our key learning is summarised below:
- We’ve been able to use technology to bring teachers and officials together, with high levels of attendance and enthusiasm – but we’ve learned that it’s also important to build the capacity of stakeholders to use technology to ensure equitable access.
- The use of technology has enabled greater involvement from senior officials, who are more able to spend time attending programme activities without the requirement to travel to them.
- Teachers and officials have strongly valued the opportunity to meet and discuss their challenges in these difficult times, which builds our confidence in the overall sustainability of our work.
While we don’t believe that technology can replace in-person meetings in the long term, we’re keen to continue to explore how a blend of online and offline delivery can enhance our activities going forward. In the next few months we want to investigate if and how technology could deepen how teachers and officials work together, and reflect more deeply on their behaviours.
