STiR Education has been working in the state of Karnataka since 2017. The outbreak of Covid-19 has caused significant disruption to the education system, and STiR agreed to deliver a series of modules for officials at all levels to provide emotional support during these unprecedented times, as well as preparing them for remote engagement.
Our key learning in Karnataka is summarised below:
- The idea of virtual facilitation was completely new for most officials, and many of them lacked confidence in using technology. We needed to change mindsets by sharing how virtual delivery and different technological tools could be effective and relevant during these times.
- We saw a greater level of ownership from officials for our remote activities compared to our previous in-person sessions, because they fully understood the need and relevance for this content.
- Remote delivery allows greater sharing of learning and best practices across blocks and districts, because it is much easier for officials to attend sessions in different areas. This has helped to encourage a culture of feedback and peer learning.
We are extremely thankful to the state government of Karnataka and DSERT for their constant support. The government has been really open and flexible in adapting to the changes we made to the delivery of our programme. We look forward to working together and extend our support as we move towards the reopening of the schools.
