National Bootcamp in Uganda

National Bootcamp in Uganda

In our role as the Motivate Pillar Lead under the Leaders in Teaching Uganda Programme, a Ministry of Education and Sports-led initiative supported by the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with UNICEF and Luigi Giussani Foundation, we have been pleased to convene a National Bootcamp Institute bringing together 72 education stakeholders, including Ministry of Education and Sports officials, DES inspectors, school leaders, consortium partners and regional trainers.

Together, we explored the power of a Growth Mindset and its role in strengthening teaching and learning across Uganda’s secondary schools. You can read the full report here

Key reflections from the bootcamp included:

  • Praising effort rather than ability to strengthen learner motivation and resilience.
  • Creating psychologically safe classrooms where mistakes are seen as opportunities for learning.
  • Strengthening teacher motivation, peer learning and professional growth through the Motivate Pillar.
  • Reinforcing the importance of evidence-driven implementation through strong M&E practices.
  • Ensuring girls, learners with disabilities and learners in refugee-hosting communities remain at the centre of educational improvement efforts.

The bootcamp reaffirmed a powerful truth: when teachers are motivated, supported and continuously learning, learners thrive. As we move into the Term 2 Learning Improvement Cycle, we remain committed to working alongside education stakeholders to build learning environments where every teacher loves teaching and every child loves learning.
