STiR welcomes the release of a new report by the Education Commission – ‘Transforming the Education Workforce: Learning Teams for a Learning Generation’ – which makes the case for teamwork as a key to educating the world’s children. This new report draws on existing evidence and innovations from education and other sectors to show how we can work together to achieve SDG4. The report has been guided by the Education Workforce Initiative High-Level Steering Group, of which STiR CEO Sharath Jeevan is a member.
The report articulates three visions for change: strengthening existing systems, developing learning teams and transforming an education system into a learning system. STiR contributed to this report by sharing our model of teacher networks, and there are a number of references to our work throughout the report. We’re pleased that the visions for change resonate so strongly with our work through system learning partnerships in India and Uganda, and to provide an example to our sector for how we can address the challenges faced by education systems by developing the existing staff and building motivation at all levels.
Sharath Jeevan said: “By encouraging collaboration, learning teams can reignite the intrinsic motivation of the education workforce to create a lifelong love of learning in our children.”
