STiR hosted its fifth annual Funder Partner Strategy Group meeting in Kampala, Uganda between 25-27 February 2019. This three-day event included:

  • An evening reception with a keynote speech from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).
  • Field visits to seven districts in central and eastern regions (to Kiboga, Jinja, Luweero, Namayingo, Kayunga, Mityana and Mubende).
  • A full day strategy workshop with partners and funders, reflecting together on short- and long-term strategies, including the future sustainability of our model.

We are grateful to have had in attendance the Ministry of Education and Sports, at both national and district level; our funders such as DFID and the Mastercard Foundation; and partners including RTI, UNATU, ASSHU, PEAS, Cambridge Education, Red Earth and Ichuli. We are also grateful to the district officials and headteachers who hosted us on the field visits.

We have consolidated the rich feedback from this event into a note, which can be accessed here. Our systems partnership approach to reignite intrinsic motivation in teachers and officials is a collective effort and we look forward to continuing discussions and collaborations with our partners in the coming weeks, months and years.
