We are delighted to share that STiR has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding today with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education (MoE).
The education system in Ethiopia faces numerous challenges and the Ministry recognises that the lack of motivation and poor retention of teachers and officials is a critical factor. We have agreed to work together on a new pilot programme in four woredas (districts) of the Wolaita zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR). Our joint activities will address the motivation of teachers, school leaders and officials by providing high-quality training opportunities, leading to a direct impact on outcomes for children. Over the five-year period, we have plans to expand into other regions too, with a target to reach at least 50,000 teachers and 1.2 million children.
STiR CEO Girish Menon said: “We’re hugely excited about this new partnership with the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia, which has long been a target country for us. We look forward to working together to support and strengthen existing initiatives in the education system such as the Continuous Professional Development programme, sharing our learning from our work in other systems and co-creating new activities to meet the unique needs in Ethiopia. Our end goal is to ensure that all children love learning, by empowering every member of the system to be an intrinsically motivated lifelong learner.”
