STiR is excited to share an update about our operations in Indonesia. Today, we have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Governance Department of Kota Kediri district, which represents our first district-level agreement in the country. Through this MOU, we will be able to support the district education system to reignite intrinsic motivation so that every official, teacher and child is motivated to learn and improve.
This MOU builds on our existing partnership with Yayasan Bakti Pendidikan Unggul to support our work in Indonesia. With the Governance Department of Kota Kediri on board, STIR and YBPU expect to create sustainable change across the district education system. The formalisation of this partnership was commemorated today with an event which was attended by more than 40 stakeholders including the Mayor of Kota Kediri, Bapak Abdullah Abu Bakar; the Head of the Regional and Development Agency, Bapak Chevy Ning Suyudi; the Head of the Governance Department, Bapak Paulus Luhur Budi Prasetya; the Head of Dinas Pendidikan, Bapak Siswanto; and the Secretary of Dinas Pendidikan, Bapak Marsudi Nugroho.
Our stakeholders said:
“The target of the programme is human resources including the school supervisors, principals and teachers. The teachers will be the spearhead – and successful teachers are those who are able to lead the students to become independent.” (Siswanto, Head of Dinas Pendidikan).
“We hope that this programme will reignite intrinsic motivation, love of learning and curiosity in the children of Kota Kediri. We highly appreciate Kota Kediri as the first district that has taken a step forward and embraced the programme. This shows that the leaders of Kota Kediri have forward-thinking and pioneering mindsets, and do not hesitate to embrace changes.” (Dian Anis Purbasari, Yayasan Bakti Pendidikan Unggul).
“Our children are now getting more capable and have extreme potential. Therefore, I would like to invite all the teachers and all education stakeholders to embrace changes. We must take our parts and prepare our human resources so that our children in Kediri will seize every opportunity that comes. The cooperation with STiR and YBPU is the starting point and we will continuously seek to improve so that our teachers will always be updated and upgraded to realise their potential.” (Mayor of Kota Kediri, Abdullah Abu Bakar).
STiR hopes that today’s agreement is the first of many with districts across Indonesia. We aim to formalise at least two more agreements this year. By 2025, we intend to reach more than 75,000 teachers and 1.2 million children across Indonesia.
